The pique polo is one of those pieces that should be simple to get right and somehow rarely is. Most of what you find at the mainstream end looks fine folded on a shelf and then disappoints the moment someone puts it on. The collar collapses. The fabric pulls across the chest. The tipping is too thick or too shiny and announces itself in the wrong way. What you want is a polo where the pique has actual weight and structure, where the collar rolls properly and holds its shape past the first wash, and where the fit is neat without being fitted in a way that only works if you never move your arms. We’ve been looking specifically at options that sit as well with tailored trousers as they do with a good pair of chinos or shorts. These are the ones that look considered rather than casual by default. The polo done properly is a serious piece of kit.
