The Oxford shirt is probably the hardest working piece in a well organised wardrobe and the white version specifically is where most men get it either very right or very wrong. Too stiff and it reads like a uniform. Too flimsy and it loses its shape by lunch. The basket weave of a proper Oxford cloth gives you something with real presence, a fabric that holds its collar, takes a crease without looking crumpled, and actually improves after a few washes. We’ve been looking specifically at white versions because that’s the one you reach for when nothing else is decided yet. It works open collar with chinos. It works under a navy blazer. Tucked, untucked, sleeves rolled to the elbow. The versatility is real but only when the construction earns it. We’ve been through the ones that don’t quite make it and these are the ones that do. The white Oxford shirt at its best is almost unfairly useful.
