The problem with most hoodies is that new is the worst they ever look. Stiff fabric, harsh colour, structure that hasn’t settled. A good washed hoodie skips all of that. It arrives already broken in, already softened, already looking like something you’ve owned for three winters and earned the right to wear anywhere. That matters more than it sounds.

We’ve been paying close attention to the ones that get the wash treatment right rather than just applying a process for the sake of it. The fabric has to have enough weight to drape properly. The colour has to have faded in a way that looks considered rather than cheap. And the cut still needs to work, because a sloppy silhouette doesn’t become charming just because the cotton is soft.

These are the hoodies that work with tailored trousers as readily as they do with jeans. Effortless is the wrong word. Earned is better.
