Blue Polo Shirts That Punch Above Their Price

The polo shirt is one of those pieces that looks effortless when it's right and slightly tragic when it isn't. Fabric is everything here. A cheap piqué goes thin and bobbled after three washes and the collar loses its nerve almost immediately. Blue is the colour we'd start with because it works harder than navy in warmer months and sits better against more skin tones than white. The problem is that a lot of men spend either too little and end up disappointed, or too much when they don't need to. There is a middle ground and it is genuinely well populated if you know where to look. We've been through a lot of blues, a lot of collar constructions, and a lot of fabric weights to find the ones that look considered rather than convenient. Green Polo Shirts That Look More Expensive Than They Are

Green is having a proper moment in menswear and the polo shirt is where it shows up best. The problem is that most green polos either look like they belong on a golf course in 1987 or they cost more than they have any right to. Neither is acceptable. What we were looking for specifically were the shades that work in real life, olive, forest, sage, the kinds of green that sit well against most skin tones and pair with navy, stone, and tan without any effort required. We were also looking at collar roll, fabric weight, and whether the placket lies flat without being ironed into submission. A polo lives and dies on those details. Grey is the polo shirt colour that most men overlook in favour of navy or white, which is exactly why it rewards those who pay attention. It sits comfortably against almost any trouser colour, works in summer linen and midweight cotton alike, and has a quietness to it that lets the rest of the outfit do the talking without the whole thing falling flat. Pink is the colour that sorts the men who understand menswear from the men who just wear clothes. Not because it takes courage. Because it takes calibration.
